Any time either of my kids hear the words "root beer float", they start laughing.

When my kids were still living at home, we'd always have "popcorn night" every Friday. One night they requested root beer floats. My hand was getting tired of scooping the ice cream, adding a little root beer, blending it, adding a little more, etc., etc. So I had a brainstorm! I had one of those Tupperware shakers and put the ice cream in very small pieces into it, added a little root beer, capped the container and started to shake it vigorously. Even with my finger over the cap, it exploded and the mixture not only sprayed all over the kitchen window and curtains but shot straight up hitting the ceiling. What else could we do but laugh!

It was just another one of those moments that makes it into the family history, lol!

Dear one,
We had a sort of similar experience!!
Except I was in the kitchen alone
It was 1 am and i was thirsty.. I opened a new bottle of rootbeer! It exploded like a rocket and flew across and up and down the kitchen, Literally RAINING rootbeer EVERYwhere!
I had to wake my dh because i was in shock, i stood there soaking wet, Well, our kitchen had rootbeer literally on the ceiling from one end tot he other! All the curtains were soaked just like yours!
a few months later i was still finding spots of it! Our kitchen includes a dining area and so all was a mess. To this day, i am NOT allowed to open ANY soda! In fact, i have also had gingerale go off like that!
I guess it must be a sort of "gift!" But i think there should be a warning label of sorts!
So sorry that happened to you but i DOOOO understand!
blessings, grace in VT

I think we can all appreciate the mess and the humor! After a couple of similar experiences, I made sure that every bottle of carbonated anything I purchased was handled gently and without any shaking; yet there were still explosive fountains when opened at home. Then I happened upon a couple of high-school-aged boys stocking the shelves at my local grocery store. One was taking the bottles out of the carton and the other was shelving them in the appropriate area. But there was about 10 to 12 feet separating them and they were tossing the bottles over the distance. They were having so much fun I didn't have the heart to tell them what clean-up problems they might be creating in the near future.
But now I always open fizzy beverages with several sheets of paper toweling over the cap, so if there is a mess, it's confined to the countertop and whatever drips on the floor - much easier surfaces to clean than the nubbly ceiling and wallpaper.

I remember those Tupperware things... little blue things where the bottom is slightly longer than the top??

My sisters' first husband would use it for one of his "science" projects, mixing water and baking soda, shaking the s*** out of it and then watching the top blow, and coating the walls along with every thing else.
