The Feast of Saint Joseph

Today is March 19, the feast of St. Joseph and a good day to make sfinge.

These cream filled pastries are made all over Italy in honor of the saint but particularly in Sicily where today is also the tradition known as le tavole di San Giuseppe or the tables of St Joseph where 100 meatless dishes from antipasto to dessert are made in his honor. I was lucky enough to take a group to Salemi, Sicily to see this tradition first hand and my Sicilian grandmother also did the tables when I was a child. Viva San Giuseppe!

Hi MaryAnn This is Linda from Cincinnati,Ohio.I saw one of your shows where a cook was making sweets for St. Josephs day feast. She was making something with dates. They were very small and I think after baking they were dunked in icing but don't hold me to that but I do know you tried one and loved it. Is there any way that recipe can be given out? I would like to try them. I have never had these before. Thank You very much. Linda Tyree
