Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, peeled
  • 1 small bunch fresh basil tied with kitchen string
  • Two cans Plum tomatoes, each weighing 28 oz
  • 1 tbsp sugar

Directions

  1. Heat oil in saucepan and add garlic; cook gently over medium heat until garlic smells fragrant and starts to brown. Remove garlic and discard.
  2. Add basil to the oil and allow it to wilt down. Add the tomatoes, sugar, and salt to the mixture, then stir well. Cook uncovered over medium heat for ten minutes. Remove and discard basil.
  3. Correct salt to taste.
