A New York State of Mind

December 9, 2008

Every year during the first week in December, I make a trip to the Big Apple.

I run to see
the Macy’s Christmas windows as well as those of Saks Fifth Avenue. I’m
like a kid again when I go to see the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center towering as high as
the skyscrapers.

The crowds are staggering at this time of year but the
electricity and vibrancy of New York is unique. Just walking the streets I
heard more than a dozen languages being spoken. And if you are craving some
world cuisine, some of the best is right here in New York.

One of the things I look forward
to is trying new restaurants and getting together with friends that I
haven’t
seen in some time. Just this week I had dinner at Olana
at 72 Madison Avenue
between 27th
and 28th streets. What a warm and inviting place. The red chairs are
OlanaLogoenough to make you stay awhile longer and the wait staff is pleasant and
accommodating. I
had a wonderful four course dinner for $69.00 which was very reasonable considering
how expensive New York is! My favorite was the triple chocolate sundae! ( I
have already walked the treadmill for this).

I
love living in New Hampshire where the pace is a bit more relaxed,
but every once in awhile it’s nice to leave the solitude of home for The City That Never Sleeps.
