It Won't Be Long Now

April 1, 2010

It won’t be long now .The grow lights are ready in the basement and very soon Guy will sow his vegetable seeds in grow pots and place them under artificial lights were they will germinate and begin their journey to the garden.

There is timing involved here. Sow them too early and the seedlngs will become leggy before being transplanted into the ground. Sow too late and the seedlings will miss out on all the nutrients they need to take from sun and soil.

Why start seed at all in grow pots under grow lights? To give the avid gardener more vigorous plants and a longer growing season. Let’s hope mother nature cooperates this year. Happy Planting!

I don’t know about where you live, but our local farmers markets are really taking off and right through the winter we have been buying as much locally produced vegetables as possible along with meats and fish. More and more people are beginning to realize that we must take back control of our food supply and how it is produced. We need to send a clear message to huge agri-businesses that we want humanely and safely produced foods, not chemically engineered ones. Only you have the power to make that change for the overall good of your health and for the environment. Support your local farmer’s markets.
