Mom’s Holiday Shortbread Cookies

November 17, 2021

Even if you are short on time and just want to make a few special cookies to give to friends or have for yourself, shortbread cookies are always a hit. The dough is so fast and easy to put together, and uses just a few staple ingredients like butter, sugar and flour.

Shortbread cookies take their name from the ratio of using one part sugar to two parts butter with flour. Crumbly and very buttery, this recipe is a standby from my mother who also liked to add dried fruit and nuts to the dough.

Shortbread with origins in Scotland, has been around in some form since the Middle Ages and it is a Scottish tradition to gift friends a box of shortbread for the holidays.
