Picnic In A Jar

June 10, 2013

Dragging stuff to the beach or park for a picnic can be a big job but I have a solution; how about summer salad in a jar instead of burgers and dogs for your picnic? Better for you too. Here is how it works: Just fill mason quart jars with salad ingredients; start by adding 1/2 cup of your favorite dressing in the jar, then add shredded lettuce, avocado, cucumber slices, tiny shrimp, or chopped ham or egg. Add shaved carrots and sliced celery; make layers all the way to the top of the jar. Cap and refrigerate. At the picnic everyone gets their own totable salad, just uncap and turn out the contents onto a paper plate and mix the dressing well with the ingredients. add a loaf of bread, some grapes or cherries and a cold drink! Fun and different!
