Ready, Set, Plant

Ready, set, plant!

Now is the time to plant your cold weather crops this month; but if you live in areas where frost is still a possibility, let May 31, Memorial Day, be your guide for planting.

Spinach, lettuce, beets, onions, parsley, peas, and sugar snap peas can go in now. Mesculin can be planted under remay, a gauze-like material that protects plants from cold and bugs, but allows water in.

Live in the country? You’ll need some form of protection for your plants from pesky critters like woodchucks, rabbits and deer. A solar powered electric fence can be your saving grace.

Even if you live in a condo, you can still have a garden…a container garden. A useful site for getting started is Garden Helper.
