Super Bowl Peperoni Sticks

February 3, 2017

Super Bowl Sunday is almost here and of course there will be lots of food. Why not make some of the fun to eat .

Super Bowl Peperoni Sticks
Makes 12

1 package prepared pizza dough, divided into 12 equal pieces
1 cup thinly sliced pepperoni
12 thin slices salami
1- ½ cups shredded mozzarella or provolone cheese
1 egg lightly beaten
4 tablespoons coarse salt
2 tablespoons dried oregano
4 tablespoons sesame seeds
4 tablespoons grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese
Tomato sauce for dipping (optional)

Roll each piece of dough under the palm of your hands into a 6- inch long log. With your fingers spread the dough open so it is at least 4 inches wide. Place several pieces of pepperoni in the center of each piece along with a slice of salami and a sprinkling of the cheese. Roll each dough piece up to enclose the ingredients and make sure that the ends are closed.

On a plate or tray combine the salt, oregano, sesame seeds and cheese.

Preheat oven to 375F

Dip each stick in the egg to coat well and then roll each one in the seed mixture. Place them spaced an inch apart on a parchment lined bake sheet.

Cover with a towel and let rise for 45 minutes in a warm spot.

Bake the sticks for about 20-22 minutes until nicely browned. Transfer to wire rack and let cool to lukewarm.

These are best eaten warm as is or dipped in tomato sauce.
