Turin: The Chocoholic's Dream Destination

October 24, 2016

One of the most fascinating things I did on my recent trip to Piedmont was visit the city of Turin, the first capital of Italy. Ironically not too many make Turin a tourist destination and that is really too bad. This elegant city is often called the Paris of Italy with its grand palazzi and wide boulevards. It is home to the Egyptian Museum, second largest and best in the world after Cairo.

In the food world, Turin is synonymous with everything chocolate from candy confections to hot chocolate and its signature famous drink known as bicerin, a combination of espresso, hot chocolate and foamed milk. Turin is in a league of its own when it comes to chocolate and that is because the nearby town of Alba is home to Ferrero, third largest chocolate company in the world and makers of their most famous gianduia, a creamy chocolate hazelnut candy as well as Kinder, Ferrero Rocher and of course Nutella, a hazelnut and chocolate spread that is a kid favorite. If you are a chocoholic, Turin is your dream destination.
