Tutti Frutti Scones


  • 2 cups unbleached all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons butter in bits
  • 1/4 cup golden raisins or currants
  • 1/2 cup dried apricots, cranberries, strawberries or blueberries
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, hazelnuts, pecans or almonds
  • For burshing on top
  • 1-1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 2 tablespoons coarse white sugar


  1. Preheat oven to 400F
  2. Mix together in a bowl, the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Use a fork or pastry blender to work in the butter until it resembles pea size pieces. Mix in the remaining ingredients except for the buttermilk or heavy cream. Mix in 1-¼ cups of heavy cream and combine until a dough forms.
  3. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and transfer the dough to the baking sheet.
  4. Pat the dough into a 10-inch circle.
  5. Brush the top with the melted butter then sprinkle evenly with coarse white sugar.
  6. With a knife score the top to create 8 equal wedges
  7. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. Separate the wedges and serve warm with jam or butter.
