A Merry Pear(y) Holiday Salad!

November 25, 2019

Need a different salad idea for the holidays? Bring your guests unexpected cheers by taking inspiration from what is in season like pears and team them with the newest darling of the cheese world, burrata. Burrata is made from cow’s or buffalo milk and is available at your local grocer, artisan cheese stores and Italian specialty stores. The name is derived from burro, which means butter in Italian; this fresh, soft and delicate cheese pairs beautifully with many ingredients but is especially good with pears. And the great thing about this salad, is that it could also be served as a dessert!

Pear and Burrata Cheese Salad
Serves 4

2 large Anjou or Bartlett ripe pears, cut in half, cored and each half sliced horizontally into four ¼-inch thick slices
2-tablespoons butter
2 balls (4 ounces each) burrata cheese, well drained and each ball cut in half with a serrated knife
Warm honey or balsamic glaze
Melt the butter in a non-stick sauté, pan and cook the pear slices until they just begin to brown on the edges; flip and cook the other side. Divide and arrange 4 pear slices on each of 4 salad plates. Add a cheese half on top of the pears
Drizzle with warm honey or balsamic glaze.
