Toasted!

April 6, 2025

Bruschetta and crostini, two Italian words, pretty much mean the same thing…toasted as in the bread that becomes the base for a variety of toppings. The most well-known is the caprese with tomato, basil and mozzarella cheese and simple as it sounds, it can be a disaster if you choose the wrong bread.

A ciabatta bread, a flat bread with lots of holes is a great choice because when sliced and toasted and drizzled with a good extra virgin olive oil, that oil seeps into the holes and grooves saturating the slices but does not make them soggy. Regular sandwich bread is too soft to handle the toppings so bag that idea.

Whatever toppings you choose, savory or sweet, let them sit a few minutes before eating to allow them to flavor the bread even more.
